From January 22-26, 2018, we will have our first Training School, which will be held in Groningen. During this week-long event, the participants will learn the basics of the key topics of the SUNDIAL network. There will be 3 courses, on Galaxies, Mathematical Morpholoy, and Machine Learning, consisting of lectures and tutorials. Students will have to follow all three of these courses. On top of that, the participants will have to work on a project which combines astronomy and computer science.
Who is to attend? All SUNDIAL PhD students will participate. On top of that, there are about 15-20 places for other interested PhD students, preferentially from teh SUNDIAL nodes. SUNDIAL Staff is allowed to participate as well. The deadline for registration is December 1, 2017. After that, the SUNDIAL board will decide who is allowed to participate.
Where will the meeting be held? It will be in Groningen, the Netherlands, in the departments of Astronomy and Computer Science, i.e., the Kapteyn Institute and the Johann Bernoulli Institute, both on the Zernike Campus.
What are the costs? The costs for the meeting will be about 100-200 euro, depending on the arrangement for lunch and dinners.
What is the schedule of the meeting? The meeting will start on Monday January 22, 2018 at 9AM, and will finish around 6PM on Friday January 26, 2018. There will be a conference excursion and conference dinner on Wednesday January 24. A preliminary programme will follow soon.
