It all happens in the inner regions of galaxies:
here in the center of the S0 galaxy NGC 5838 we see
a dust disk in which young stars are currently being
formed. This is a B-I image, observed with the WFPC2
on HST.
An image and velocity field at
the same time: SAURON provides 3D datacubes
of nearby
ellipticals and spirals with the largest field of view in the
world.
