Index of the project
This is the homepage of the second year astronomy students at the Groninger
Kapteyn institute. We were asked to do some research on an up-to-date question
in the astronomy. After some discussion we finaly decided to examine the
conditions for life on extra solar planets. We came up with the following
question.
The main question of our project is: What should be the enviroment
of a planet to support life and what should be the conditions on the planet
it self? This question can be devided into several subquestions each of
which will be answered by a different student.
The different questions which we have tried to answer:
What should be the conditions on a planet to support life?
When do you call an object a star and when a planet?
Where can you find the different stellar populations?
How does the structure of a solar system effect the possibility of life?
Can extrasolar planets (with life?) be detected with the current techniques?
Can life exist on the extrasolar planets which have been found?
