Strong Gravitational Lensing in the Next Decade

With many new developments in the field of strong gravitational lensing such as upcoming large surveys (e.g. with LSST, LOFAR, SKA, etc.), new modeling techniques and new questions, the time seems right to think about the direction of the field in the next decade and beyond.

A small focussed workshop will therefore be held in Cogne (Aosta, Italy) for about thirty active researchers in this field (plus a few of their students and postdocs), that are involved in e.g. lens surveys, lens modeling, applications of strong lensing, to spend one week discussing and thinking about where strong lensing is at the moment and where it should be in one decade from now.

The goal is to come up with (i) a vision on the most important questions where gravitational lensing can contribute to answering astrophysical and cosmological questions, or where it might be the only method, and (ii) provide new directions for both theoretical and observational work in the coming decade.

A dedicated workshop in a natural setting, interspersed with the option of outdoor activities, seems conducive to a fruitful gathering and free-discussion environment. The meeting will therefore be held in the mountain town of Cogne (Aosta), Italy, near the Mont Blanc.

Due to the nature of the workshop and the venue, we limit the workshop to max. ~30 participants.
