Announcement (June 18)

  • The results for the Quarterfinal matches have to be given to any HOC member before thursday 18:00 (matches start on friday 21).
  • Cesar didn't manage to get any score right for the second round, so no points will be substracted from him. Nevertheless, if this situation continues we'll apply him the rule.
  • After a long meeting, the HOC has decided to extend this rule to the top 5 people as well :)

Announcement (June 11)

The last leg of the first round has started!, this will be finished by next friday. The second round (last 16) will start on next saturday. So, please remember that you have to hand in your predictions for the next 8 matches before friday 14th at 18:00 to any member of the HOC. For this, you just have to put the names of the qualified teams at the right places on the same form that you already have (remember that you have the original or a copy of it).

There is an extra rule, from now on, there might be matches that have to be decided by penalties, this means that there cannot be draws, so the goals count from the penalties. For example,

Germany-Italy:

  • 2-2 (normal time)
  • 2-2 (extended time)
  • 5-2 (penalties)
you'll only get the 3 points if and ONLY IF you predicted 5-2.

Extra rule!

IF Cesar continues annoying us with getting right more scores, they will be deducted from his total score and distributed among the HOC and Emilio's compadre Willem.

Registration's Deadline

May 30th, Thursday. There will be several deadlines, one for each round. The time limit for each of them will be 18:00.
  • First round: May 30, thursday
  • Second round: June 14, friday
  • Quarter-finals: June 20, thursday
  • Semi-finals: June 24, tuesday
  • Finals, 3er & 4th: June 28, friday.
Notice: For the 2nd round you will have only one afternoon to submit your form!!!

Scope

The idea is to guess the 'score' and hence the 'winner' for each match from the beginning until the end of the World Cup (WC here and after). We will provide you with a sheet containing all and each of the games of the WC. For the 1st round the games have been already set. For the second round, first group places will face 2nd places, we have indicated these as well, and so on until the final. There are different deadlines to submit your pools for each round.

What do you have to do? Simple, you just have to put scores, these can be as crazy as you think, e.g. England 6 - Argentina 8.

- For the first round:
You just have to put scores to the 48 matches. If your guess is right you will get points (see section Scoring), in case you don't, well... you won't (better for us). We will provide as well with a second sheet indicating the groups, there you can make your own statistics. According to your scores, you can fill in this sheet and choose 1st and 2nd places for each group and give them points according to FIFA rules (3 points for winners, 1 point for draws), if your choices are correct you will get extra points (see Scoring).

- For the 2nd round:
Once the 1st round has been completed, you have to put the name of the teams that actually qualified to this round and guess the scores.

- Quarter-finals and onwards:
Again, once you know the quarterfinal teams, you write them down at the right places and guess the scores. This will be the same for the semi-finals, 3er and 4th places and the Final.

Scoring

This is the base of the Pool and is rather easy. You can get 3, 1, 0 points depending on your guess.

1 Point --> For guessing right the winner
3 Points --> For guessing right both the score and the winner
0 Point --> For not guessing right anything :(
In case of a draw:
1 point --> For guessing a draw
3 Points --> For guessing right the score.

This is an example of scoring, if you guessed that the score between Argentina vs England will be 2-1 for Argentina, these are the options:

1) If the real score is 2-1 for Argentina, you will get 3 points
2) If the real score is 3-2 for Argentina, you will get 1 point (winner)
3) If the real score is 2-0 for England, you'll get 0 points (no winner/score)
4) If the real score is 1-2 for England, you'll get 0 points (right score, wrong team, you looser)
5) If the real score is a draw, you'll get 0 points

Extra points:

You can get extra points. This will be given at the end of each round.
So:

  • 1st round
You will get 2 extra points for guessing correctly the 1st and 2nd place of each group, so in total you can get 16 extra points at the end of the 1st round. (You have to guess correctly both places!)
  • 2nd round:
If you guess correctly the 8 winner teams, you will get 8 extra points.
  • Quarter-finals:
If you guess correctly the 4 winner teams, you will get 4 extra points.
  • Semi-finals:
If you guess correctly the 2 winner teams, you will get 2 extra points.

Prize

At the end of the WC, all points will be added. The person with more points will be the Winner. The trophy will be splitted as follows:

2/3 of the total collected amount for the winner.
1/3 for the second best.

In case of two winners (in points) then we will proceed as follows:

a) the one with more scores of 3 points (guessing right winner & score) wins.
b) If there is still a draw, then the one who guessed better in the 1st round wins.
c) If there is still a draw we will break the prize in two pieces.

Problems?

Any problem or question that could arise at any moment, will be solved in situ by the HOC or HSC members.
