Bjorn not last after all
Some days ago it was thought that Bjorn was in the last position in the Pool, because of not handing in his predictions for the matches after the first round of the World Cup. This is however not correct. Bjorn is in the US and not able to hand in his predictions and therefore predicted 2-0 for all remaining matches. This has actually earned him 6 points in the second round, making his total score now 29 points. This is enough to leave Jan and Nissim (who really didn't hand in predictions for the second round) behind him.
Ahn dropped by Perugia
Italy is in mourning after their national football team was sent home from the World Cup by co-host South-Korea. That some Italians are particularly bad losers is shown by the president of Italian football club Perugia, Luciano Gaucci. Korean striker Jung-Hwan Ahn, who scored the golden goal against Italy, was dropped by Perugia, the club he was playing for. "Someone who eliminates us, doesn't have to come back here", according to Gaucci.
Predictions for Quarterfinals to be handed in
Now that the second round of the World Cup is finished and the Quarterfinalists are known, the predictions for these matches have to be handed in. Since the Quarterfinals will be played on friday and saturday, the deadline for handing in your predictions to the HOC is 18:00 hours on thursday, June 20.

Cesar and Willem share first place
All matches of the second round of the World Cup have been played and it's as the World Cup comes closer and closer to it's conclusion, the tension in the Kapteyn Pool is also increasing. Today, Willem has joined Cesar on top of the list, both now with 49 points. Second placed Eline is 4 points behind and thus still a favourite for winning the Pool. Behind her it is getting more difficult, since the number of games still to be played (and predicted) is getting ever smaller. But we have already seen quite some surprises the last few weeks, so anything is still possible!
Final scores June 18
- Japan - Turkey 0-1
- South-Korea - Italy 2-1 (a.e.t.)
Jan no longer last!!!
For the first time ever Jan is not the number last in the Kapteyn World Cup Pool! After scoring hardly any points, he has now managed to get equal with Nissim and even one of the HOC members, Wilfred. The HOC is not sure wether Wilfred can stay part of the HOC, considering his abominable performance in the Pool... The new number last of the Pool is Bjorn, who didn't hand in his predictions for the second round.
Meanwhile, Cesar is still in the lead, but Willem has only 1 point less.

Cesar still first, record score for Eline
Cesar still is on top of the Kapteyn World Cup Pool, although several people gained on him. Willem now is the single number two, only four points behind Cesar's 45. But today special attention should go to Eline, who climbed to third position thanks to a new record score of 10 points in one day!
Tomorrow is the last day of the first round of the World Cup, so remember to give your predictions for the second round of the tournament to Emilio tomorrow afternoon!

Cesar extends his lead
Today we saw another favourite for the World Cup drop out of the tournament, namely Argentina. The current favourite in the Kapteyn World Cup Pool on the other hand did very well, extending his lead to seven points. Jarno is still in second place, but Willem has now joined him and is still a strong contender. And as we come closer to the end of the first round of the World Cup and the bonus points for predicting the right numbers 1 and 2 in each group are being awarded, things can still change a lot.
Final scores June 12
- Sweden - Argentina 1-1
- Nigeria - England 0-0
- South-Africa - Spain 2-3
- Slovenia - Paraguay 1-3
Cesar comes, sees and takes the lead
During the last four days, Cesar has shattered the opposition and taken a convincing lead in the Kapteyn World Cup Pool! Predicting several scores right, Cesar now leads the pool with 35 points, giving him a 6 point lead over the (also new) number two, Jarno. Pre-weekend leaders Willem and Liesbeth are even further behind. Will Cesar be able to carry a decisive lead into the second round of the Pool on friday? Watch this space!

Unconventional methods pay off?
The score predictions of one of the entries in the Kapteyn World Cup Pool were made with a rather unconventional method. From well-informed sources, we know that the Two Hot Chicks selected the number of goals each side would score almost completely random. Apparently, pieces of paper with a number between 0 and 6 were randomly drawn from a pile. The interesting thing is of course that with this method, the Two Hot Chicks are not doing bad...
Competition getting heavier in Kapteyn Pool
With yesterdays leaders scoring only 1 or even no points, and several others doing well today, the competition in the Kapteyn World Cup Pool seems to be getting heavier. Now Liesbeth and Willem are the two leaders, with 22 points. Jacquie and Cesar both have 21 points. A large number of people have between 14 and 20 points, so with one good day any of them could jump to the top of the list!
Final scores June 7
- Sweden - Nigeria 2-1
- Spain - Paraguay 3-1
- Argentina - England 0-1
Three leaders, Jan still last
The tension in the Kapteyn World Cup Pool keeps increasing. After the matches of June 6, three people are tied for first place: Liesbeth, Willem and Jacquie, all with 21 points. And Cesar is only 1 point behind...
If we look at the bottom of the scoring list, nothing much seems to be changing, as Jan is already last with 5 points for several days in a row. Will he be able to hand the red lantern to someone else before the end of the World Cup?
Final scores June 6
- Denmark - Senegal 1-1
- Cameroon - Saudi Arabia 1-0
- France - Uruguay 0-0
Willem is the new number 2
Although Liesbeth did not score any points today, her 20 points are still good enough for first place in the Kapteyn World Cup Pool. But everything seems open again. Willem is the new number two with 19 points, after scoring 6 today. Behind Willem, it's Cesar in third place with 18 points and Jacquie in fourth position with 17.
Final scores June 5
- Russia - Tunesia 2-0
- USA - Portugal 3-2
- Germany - Ireland 1-1

Emilio and Jacquie jump to second position
Predicting the right score for China-Costa Rica, Liesbeth has scored another 3 points and thus secured her leading position in the Kapteyn World Cup Pool. Behind Liesbeth, the battle for second place is a very close one, with a lot of people close together. Today Emilio and Jacquie have moved to a shared second position with 14 points, 6 points behind Liesbeth.
Final scores June 4
- China - Costa Rica 0-2
- Japan - Belgium 2-2
- South-Korea - Poland 2-0

After four days of the 2002 FIFA world cup, Liesbeth is leading the Kapteyn World Cup pool with 17 points! She already has a lead of 4 points over the number two, Willem. But we have still 37 matches to go in the first round, so nothing has been decided yet.

This means that the total amount of prize money available is 145 Euro's! May the best man/woman/mammal win!
